Things I noticed at the Arctic Monkeys

Sharing a taxi with Andy and Andy was worthwhile. They were stuck, we had space, they paid the fare. Brilliant. It’s amazing how drunk people can get in a short space of time. Getting drunk in the sunshine is better when sat on maintained grass areas, even if these are verges rather than lawns. When [...]

Arctic Monkeys

I was fortunate enough to be at Lancashire County Cricket Club yesterday to see Arctic Monkeys. Supported by The Parrots (missed them), Amy Winehouse (would have been far better after dark in a small, grubby venue and with a better mix), The Coral (superb), Supergrass (why oh why do bands fall out of fashion when [...]

Don’t miss …

The Simpsons Movie. Great little asides and background pieces had me crying with laughter. Homer decrying watching a programme you can get for free on the TV was priceless. Bambi covering hi eyes as Homer and Marge make luurve. Bart skateboarding …. Flanders …… Barney Gumble ….. Spider Pig …… The list goes on and [...]

And another recommendation

If you happen to be wandering around Amber Valley (The Heart of Derbyshire, no less, even though some of the towns are better described as other, more fetid parts of the body) try the food at The Bull’s Head, Denby Common, Denby. Excellent fresh food and the early-menu is seven pounds and ninety five of [...]

Meetings ….

One of the stupid things I do is attend meetings of various bodies. Which is fine, it’s kind of community service if you like. But why is it that groups seemingly working for the same ends end up working at things from the opposite ends of a problem and staying well away from any concensus?

Recommended ….

Goji is a Chinese buffest restaurant on the A45 between Coventry and the M45. Good, fresh and well flavoured and produced in small quantities so that things are always fresh. And also the cafe at Kenilworth Castle. Local produce, well used to make good, simple dishes.

A Balanced Meal

Protein, carbohydrate, fat, fibre, etc. So is a Quarter Pound burger, served with a lump of lettuce, tomato and gherkin heading towards some balance? Throw in some cheese and chips (that’s 4 veggies) and onion rings (that’s 5) and you must be somewhere close. Personally, I like flavoured water with hops, etc. so a few [...]

Travel frustrations and strange sights

1) Elderly Americans – don’t try to buck the rules because you are Old and American. Security regulations apply to you. Which means a small bag and a small amount of liquid and not a litre of water plus every bit of hotel toiletry supplies from every hotel you’ve stayed at in Europe. 2) The [...]

And more evidence ….

In Munich on Friday I saw the most perfect Mullet cut since Roy Smith in 1989 or thereabouts or the Kentucky State Fair in 2001. Long at the back, straight at the front in a lovely Blonde colour coupled with a pron-star under-nose catapiller. Maybe we will find re-runs of Triangle with German subtitles on [...]

Eighties Time Capsule

It seems that Northern Germany is stuck in some kind of ’80′s timewarp. Radio stations playing Marrillion and promoting Chris De Burgh and TV presenters looking like a fat version of the Kelly bloke from the show that introduced Jeremy Beadle before ‘Beadle’s About’. It’s most disconcerting ….
