Rent-a-banger
Looks like a great idea but somehow I can’t help thinking that a client driving around with a bumper hanging off and a flat rear tyre doesn’t give the right impression.
I’m sure things are normally better than the vehicle I saw on the M1 today but you never know …
I hired of rent a banger yesterday. And it was fine. I hired a 52 plate passat, very clean and probs bobs. SENSATIONALY ONLY £65 PER WEEK. MUST BE THE CHEAPEST HIRE COMPANY IN BRITAIN. YOU HAVE GOT YOUR WIRES CROSSED.

Contacted office on website number and they have apparently moved to an office in Maidenhead with no fowarding information. VERY dubious! Be careful with this lot at present.

We used rent a banger in May and the same thing happened – we requested a return of our deposit but were told that they had “changed ownership”. Sure enough, the signage outside the front of their showroom now says “Foxhill Car Hire”.
We have filed a claim against them at the Small Claims Court and have just requested a judgement against them for £300. Not sure whether we’ll ever get paid though!
If you paid the deposit by credit card, you can make a claim with your credit card company.
I wouldn’t bother using either rentabanger or foxhill in future (or anywhere which takes an actual deposit from you with the right to hold for 28 days)

Hired a car in May. No problems. Phoned to arrange payment of deposit back to me to be told that they didn’t exist any more and there was no forwarding address.
Contacted Companies House where their status is still ‘current’. Office in Maidenhead will now be served legal papers for retrieval of stolen £300.00. Police have also been informed.
Do not do business with these people.

August 19th, 2009 at 11:11 pmSame experience. He is a complete con man. The car he rented me had all four tyres that needed replacement and a rear view mirror that kept falling off. To add insult to injury he then took hundreds of pounds off my card without my authorisation.
Trading standards only act if enough people complain so everyone on here should definitely follow the advice of John above.
How have other people got on in getting their money back from credit card company or banks?

Eventually HSBC credit cards agreed to refund me the money rentabanger stole as it was from my credit card and therefore covered. Was a long winded process though (3 months) and I only got the money back when I involved the financial ombudsmen.

Phoned him and got some rubbish about his machine for refunds has broken down, i asked for a cheque or cash and he said couldnt be done. I told him he’s in breach of his own contract and he told me TRY and get your money back through the consumer credit act.

February 11th, 2010 at 9:45 amWe arranged to RENT A BANGER from this company, but within an hour cancelled in agreement, that they are happy to accept cancellation at no charge. One hour later car was delivered, which we refused to accept. the car was taken back. I telephoned immediately to advise, them the car was cancelled yet it was brought to our address. The person on the phone said, SORRY I forgot to inform them, but don’t worry you won’t be charged.
To my surprise a week later £386.25 was charged to my Creidt Card. No Original Credit Card Slip / Invoice / or Terms and Conditions were sent to us.
I telephoned the company, only to be told we will not refund and slammed the phone down.
Phoned the Credit Card company, they investigate. In their own time a reply came, sorry you must provide the Terms and Conditions for us to Investigate, despite having informed at the outset, no documents have been received from FOXHILL MOTORS, who had taken the money.
In the end they obtain the Terms & Conditions, and told us they can not help.
After spotting Refund clause 15: I wrote back to Barclaycard, informing them why have they still returned our £300 deposit, leaving a side the rental charge.
On 9th December, they credited our account with £250, still holding illegimately £186.25
I had also reported them to consumer advice at DTI, who have logged the complaint, but advised us to take them to small claims court. I doubt that will achieve anything after reading the afore going messages.
I shall pursue to fight this con merchant plus the cost I incur on the grounds of principle.

Well it would seem that I have joined the brotherhood of guys being coned by this man / company.
I have used this company 3 times now and must say that the 1st and 2nd times were problem free. It did what it said on the tin, I rented a banger. It was cheap and served its job.
However on the last occasion in December 2009 I payed the deposit by cash £300. I was told that the cash would be re-funded by cash, cheque or direct transfer into my account. I was also told that due the xmas holidays i would need to call back on or after the 5th Jan 2010.
No problems with the car however when it rained I got wet but I could live with that. On the 6th Jan 2010 i called them up and spoke with Darren and he took all my bank details and said that this could take up to 14 days. 28 days later NO MONEY! I called him and he was very well spoken and told me he was sorry but all their accounts had been cloned and that he would make sure i had the money ASAP. I waited a further 2 weeks and still no money. I called the office and spoke to a new guy that was working there and he said not a problem i will send you a cheque in the post.
Guess what, still NO cash or cheque. I drove to their place of business and when i arrived their office was closed and all cars had gone. I spoke with the company at the end of the road and they informed me that they had moved over night back in December. I called Darren and spoke with him he said “No worries you will get your money” and that the reason the office was closed was due to overheads and they haven`t gone under. “yer right”.
I have spoke with him about 4 times since that day and every day i get the same story.
I have now emailed him and wrote to him stating legal proceedings will start in 7 days from today 22/02/10.
All numbers are directed to ONE (1) Orange mobile phone. 01895-277-404 & 07740-2844-70.

it seems that this just runs and runs. One thing to add us that all positive comments have been posted from people at rent-a-wreck ip addresses or with their email or website. .
Obviously you make your own mind up. I posted about a car I saw on the M1 and have never used their services. As such I can’t comment on their service or business practice.
To the guys at rent-a-wreck please feel free to answer the points raised or not but it might help if you were upfront about working for rent-a-wreck!

He is still battling 6 months on to get his money back from the credit card company with no luck so far
Due to Mr Sharps Dealings
Not only did Mr Sharp committed fraud by taking for an extra week off the credit card he also Refused to pay back the deposit after the 28 days
And he admitted to me that he now owns FOXHILL
It is very sad that they have to write there own reviews to try and confuse people of what the real story is on this site and other sites
After Mr Sharp took every ones money he closed it down and has hidden behind the LTD sign limited liability
And has opened foxhill strait away Please anyone don’t be fooled in to thinking this is a new company that has nothing to do with rent a banger it has every thing to do with rent a banger Mr Sharp is the owner of Foxhill
And it won’t be long until he dose it again he is known crook in the area

I returned 5 times for some paperwork. Everytime single time, I called just before and they said documents were there. Everytime I arrive they came up with different stories why they were not there (despite telling me otherwise the same day). Best thing was the younger guy trying to tell me lies while winking at the older guy (Darren?). Apparently the lie wasnt good enough because old guy shook his head and came up with different story. It’s just an example of how dishonest and stupid they are.
The aggressive responses of these guys to criticism on some webpages should be an eye-opener to everyone. Stay away from these guys! You waste money time and nerves and will prob get as angry as me and everyone else here.

Some of the bad reviews written on this website are from our competitors we know that for sure!!! As the saying goes any advertising is good advertising. For all the questionable reviews we have many customers who are very satisfied we our service. think about it if you hads a good experience with a company why would you bother writing down a review, it would only be if you had a bad experience, we have many regular customers who are pleased with our service and think RENTABANGER when they want to hire a car.

thanks for the response. So all of the comments are from happy customers? Why not say so at the time? It would give a better impression.
As I said at the start I saw what I saw. No comment on service or anything else. Maybe some are from competitors who knows?
I doubt the one from trading standards is but you never know. Anyway, post away with satisfied comments but make it clear that they are from satisfied customers or it looks strange at best or suspicious at worst.
The thing is I’m not really bothered. I posted one comment and the floodgates opened. No problem from my point of view. I doubt I’ll use your service anytime soon.
Can I ask one thing though. Are you an employee or director or not? And if so, wouldn’t it be better to have been upfront before hand?

Well I posted your comments and you raised some issues. I responded because I can. In one post you don’t work for rent a banger, in another it is your business. You post customer comments and employees comment.
It’s a blog. It’s a place for me to write irrelevant nonsense and the stuff that crosses my mind. I posted one comment about the car I saw on the M1. Others posted about the company. I get my doubts when a customer service director from Malaysia posts using the same IP and email as you.
Anyway, i will just delete any comments from the same IP addresses if you like as that make you happy. I hope your business does well and you give excellent customer service. I really hope you do.

As somebody mentioned earlier in the thread, it could be a great idea if run by honest people. Unfortunately for all of us who were ripped off, it isn’t.
Fortunately for me, I had all my money returned by HSBC but for those who haven’t, I sympathise. If it is of any consolation though, they will soon be receiving their comeuppance thanks to Trading Standards.
May 29th, 2010 at 3:29 pmIf I had read these blogs before I would NEVER have rented from this pikey wide boy. Firstly he rented me a car with no valid tax and then denied it and said the tax disc had ‘flown out of the window’ then the drivers side window didn’t work. Then said he would change the vehicle and didn’t contact me. I then decided to cancel my card as I realised on the contract that he hadn’t circled weekly payment card and could have been milking my account daily. When He eventually called and said he couldn’t take any money I asked him if I could set up a direct debit into his account as I was uncomfortable with the set up. He refused and then said we should call it a day. I agreed and left the keys and the car at a neighbours for him to collect. He collected the car one hour later, drove it back to his depot and then called me four hours later and said I had damaged the car and he had photos to prove it. He did not give me an inventory of the staus of the vehicle when I hired it and consequently I did not sign anything. He does this on a regular basis by all accounts. I had a congestion charge ticket whilst I had the car and he called me this morning to say it was 180 pounds, this was supposedly for one day! I said he could take the payment after he sent the ticket to me from my deposit. He then said I had no deposit as I had done 300 pounds worth of damage to the car. This guy is the greediest fat slob I have ever met. I won’t be bullied by him and have informed the police of his tactics. He then said he would ‘get the baillifs’. I have seen a solicitor and taken notes of all these complaints. If he takes this matter any further he will be suprised at the can of worms it will open!

September 30th, 2010 at 3:57 pmTo all victims of this fat crook Darren and his slimy father – a number of complaints about this crooked organization have been made to trading standards, the council and the police but so far these slobs are getting away with it. We have been ripped off in a similar way by them and will be commencing legal proceedings to recover our losses, although these slimes are clever by closing down their “limited company”, their activities are clearly fraudulent and if enough complaints are made to the police they will be going away for a long time. Continue the blog and see if we can bring them to justice.

Unfortunately, you weren’t under oath otherwise you would be where you should be – back in jail.
Why then are you under police investigation?
You claim to have closed your businesses. This is not the case. Rent a banger which you ran with your wife Sharon has not gone bankrupt but companies house have not allowed you to close it as a result of objections. The only reason you are not trading through Foxhills motors is the name has such a bad reputation.

oh darren whats happened??? this used to be a really nice company and people to do business with. my ex partner hired off rent a banger for a long time, between february 2004 and 2008 non stop. when your ex employee left in late 2008 it all went downhill. we always tried to keep up with payments but as soon as terry was in the office everything just went wrong. first you didnt even compramise like before you just started going off on one asking for your car back…. then some money got taken of my ex partners credit card… its a shame darren.
