Rent-a-banger
Looks like a great idea but somehow I can’t help thinking that a client driving around with a bumper hanging off and a flat rear tyre doesn’t give the right impression.
I’m sure things are normally better than the vehicle I saw on the M1 today but you never know …
I hired of rent a banger yesterday. And it was fine. I hired a 52 plate passat, very clean and probs bobs. SENSATIONALY ONLY £65 PER WEEK. MUST BE THE CHEAPEST HIRE COMPANY IN BRITAIN. YOU HAVE GOT YOUR WIRES CROSSED.

Contacted office on website number and they have apparently moved to an office in Maidenhead with no fowarding information. VERY dubious! Be careful with this lot at present.

We used rent a banger in May and the same thing happened – we requested a return of our deposit but were told that they had “changed ownership”. Sure enough, the signage outside the front of their showroom now says “Foxhill Car Hire”.
We have filed a claim against them at the Small Claims Court and have just requested a judgement against them for £300. Not sure whether we’ll ever get paid though!
If you paid the deposit by credit card, you can make a claim with your credit card company.
I wouldn’t bother using either rentabanger or foxhill in future (or anywhere which takes an actual deposit from you with the right to hold for 28 days)

Hired a car in May. No problems. Phoned to arrange payment of deposit back to me to be told that they didn’t exist any more and there was no forwarding address.
Contacted Companies House where their status is still ‘current’. Office in Maidenhead will now be served legal papers for retrieval of stolen £300.00. Police have also been informed.
Do not do business with these people.

August 19th, 2009 at 11:11 pmSame experience. He is a complete con man. The car he rented me had all four tyres that needed replacement and a rear view mirror that kept falling off. To add insult to injury he then took hundreds of pounds off my card without my authorisation.
Trading standards only act if enough people complain so everyone on here should definitely follow the advice of John above.
How have other people got on in getting their money back from credit card company or banks?

Be of a safe condition as mine was not if you read the small print
He will even charge you if you brake down
This con man took my 400pounds and was laughing about it.

Eventually HSBC credit cards agreed to refund me the money rentabanger stole as it was from my credit card and therefore covered. Was a long winded process though (3 months) and I only got the money back when I involved the financial ombudsmen.

January 18th, 2010 at 10:57 pmSame thing happened here. Took £300 deposit, was supposed to refund it on 1st January still hasnt put it back on. Phoned him and got some rubbish about his machine for refunds has broken down, i asked for a cheque or cash and he said couldnt be done. I told him he’s in breach of his own contract and he told me TRY and get your money back through the consumer credit act.
Suggest everyone puts their reviews on every site this losers advertises on

February 3rd, 2010 at 8:35 pmOh dear oh dear. They’re doing this to me right now. £300 deposit due back Jan 16th, it’s now Feb 7th. Various excuses in phone calls, though they’ve been polite every time.
How can they get away with this over such a long period???

February 11th, 2010 at 9:45 amWe arranged to RENT A BANGER from this company, but within an hour cancelled in agreement, that they are happy to accept cancellation at no charge. One hour later car was delivered, which we refused to accept. the car was taken back. I telephoned immediately to advise, them the car was cancelled yet it was brought to our address. The person on the phone said, SORRY I forgot to inform them, but don’t worry you won’t be charged.
To my surprise a week later £386.25 was charged to my Creidt Card. No Original Credit Card Slip / Invoice / or Terms and Conditions were sent to us.
I telephoned the company, only to be told we will not refund and slammed the phone down.
Phoned the Credit Card company, they investigate. In their own time a reply came, sorry you must provide the Terms and Conditions for us to Investigate, despite having informed at the outset, no documents have been received from FOXHILL MOTORS, who had taken the money.
In the end they obtain the Terms & Conditions, and told us they can not help.
After spotting Refund clause 15: I wrote back to Barclaycard, informing them why have they still returned our £300 deposit, leaving a side the rental charge.
On 9th December, they credited our account with £250, still holding illegimately £186.25
I had also reported them to consumer advice at DTI, who have logged the complaint, but advised us to take them to small claims court. I doubt that will achieve anything after reading the afore going messages.
I shall pursue to fight this con merchant plus the cost I incur on the grounds of principle.

Well it would seem that I have joined the brotherhood of guys being coned by this man / company.
I have used this company 3 times now and must say that the 1st and 2nd times were problem free. It did what it said on the tin, I rented a banger. It was cheap and served its job.
However on the last occasion in December 2009 I payed the deposit by cash £300. I was told that the cash would be re-funded by cash, cheque or direct transfer into my account. I was also told that due the xmas holidays i would need to call back on or after the 5th Jan 2010.
No problems with the car however when it rained I got wet but I could live with that. On the 6th Jan 2010 i called them up and spoke with Darren and he took all my bank details and said that this could take up to 14 days. 28 days later NO MONEY! I called him and he was very well spoken and told me he was sorry but all their accounts had been cloned and that he would make sure i had the money ASAP. I waited a further 2 weeks and still no money. I called the office and spoke to a new guy that was working there and he said not a problem i will send you a cheque in the post.
Guess what, still NO cash or cheque. I drove to their place of business and when i arrived their office was closed and all cars had gone. I spoke with the company at the end of the road and they informed me that they had moved over night back in December. I called Darren and spoke with him he said “No worries you will get your money” and that the reason the office was closed was due to overheads and they haven`t gone under. “yer right”.
I have spoke with him about 4 times since that day and every day i get the same story.
I have now emailed him and wrote to him stating legal proceedings will start in 7 days from today 22/02/10.
All numbers are directed to ONE (1) Orange mobile phone. 01895-277-404 & 07740-2844-70.
The Swan House address is no longer rented by Rent a Banger / Fox Hills Motor Company.

it seems that this just runs and runs. One thing to add us that all positive comments have been posted from people at rent-a-wreck ip addresses or with their email or website. .
Obviously you make your own mind up. I posted about a car I saw on the M1 and have never used their services. As such I can’t comment on their service or business practice.
To the guys at rent-a-wreck please feel free to answer the points raised or not but it might help if you were upfront about working for rent-a-wreck!

I have no idea if these guys are good or bad as I keep saying. All I know is I’m getting bored of self praise disguised as comment. This blog is my place for letting the little bit of the web know what I think. I doubt anyone cares. Except for the slcustomers and staff of rent a banger.
