Sundays

No, not the band. Sundays. The first day of the week, or the day before you crash back into work.

Since Sunday Trading became legal in the UK it seems that no one has been very satisfied. Shops open for a bit. People shop for a bit. Big shops open but little ones still struggle to do the same. And the weeks merge into one as we crash headlong in to a frenzy of similarity.

Now I’m in Spain and Sundays are different. Mind you, Spain is different so
maybe I’m looking at things in a strange way.

Anyway. Sundays here are open or closed. Open is the first Sunday in the month, or next to a holiday, or December. Which marks three or more Sundays as special. The pace of life is different on these days and that is good. But shops open all day on the days they are open so the frenzy is reduced but profits aren’t slashed.

I wonder if the compromise in the UK serves all sides badly and maybe a rethink would be better for all sides of the debate?
