Olympics

How often can you see top sportsmen and women competing in all kinds of daft things that you’d never normally watch and still get enthralled? Synchronised diving, Archery, Judo, Canoeing, etc. are all sports that I am aware of but also ones that I’d never bother watching normally. I’m thinking that I might just have [...]

Queen’s Park, Chesterfield

I went to watch Derbyshire and Surrey in Pro-40 cricket action today and it was delightful. Queen’s Park is really perfect for cricket – and old pavilion, knowledgable crowd, lots of refreshments, trees and a brass band. If you can, get there and watch a game. Just don’t expect to see a great Derbyshire side. [...]

Tour de France

It is a stupid, stupid thing but an incredible physical achievement. I’d rather have an engine …

Sorry for not posting!

GTP has closed down, so I’ve been working on setting up a wide-ranging sports/ current affairs/ stuff forum to replacesome parts of it. Towards the end, there was a split between those who wanted a pure Sports board and one that was comfortable covering life. So, the lightning lounge is here, and growing. If you [...]

Demise of GTP and rise of boltbuker.com and thelightninglounge.com

GTP, or Glorify the Past, the best damn Chargers site ever, has closed down. After years of effort and good times, Scott has closed the doors and turned out the lights. So, two sites have emerged from the ashes – www.boltbunker.com and www.thelightninglounge.com The first is a pure Sport site, with room for fun. The [...]

New Sports Column

Traps is a one-off. Beside being a South African Derby fan (a rare beast indeed) he has the insight and bottle to write what many think but few submit to paper/ electron. Have a go and enjoy! Just don’t bother if you are easily offended …

A Sporting First

I attended the Guides Swimming Gala tonight with No.1 Child. Very competitive and pretty good really. One Brownie was exceptional. Fastest swimmer in any age group by my reckoning. Shame she will be too young for London 2012. Which makes me think that there must be loads of Olympic hopefuls out there that only people [...]

Indian Premier League

It just may be that the IPL is the game to make cricket a world-wide game. Twenty/20 is fantastic entertainment. Every ball counts, every run, every stop, every wicket. It’s all energy and excitement and great TV or live entertainment. Bringing the best International players together makes for great entertainment. Include massive crowds and its [...]

Daily Mail

I flew to Munich this morning and had the dubious privilege of reading the Daily Mail. I was quite upbeat (given that the alarm didn’t go off) but reading the paper makes you fel dirty and depressed! They had a good dig at the Olympic Torch trogging through London yesterday. The situation in Tibet is [...]

The Sikh of Tweak

Monty Panesar has been dubbed as ‘The Sikh of Tweak’ which somehow doesn’t do him justice. Monty is an unusual figure in English sport as he appears as a Sikh when playing cricket and not as a cricketer from the sub-Continent playing for England. And the presence of Monty is a great story. He’s a [...]
