It’s a Long Way to Stockholm!

2662.5 miles, actually, which is a long way. Especially in a car.
The sunset on the lake North of Jonkoping was spectacular. The bird of prey by the motorway in Malmo was majestic. Bridges in Denmark, a ferry to Germany and lots of trees.
I wouldn’t rush to repeat the trip, but it feels [...]

London Sights

I was in London today and as it was hot there were all kinds of sights on offer.
A woman in a wheelchair in front of a bus, protesting I assume at her denied boarding made for an interesting spectacle. The same woman in discussion with a couple of cops 5 minutes later made me [...]

Belsen …

After over a year travelling back and forth to Germany, I finally made it to the Belsen memorial. Truly horrific in scale, depressing and moving in equal measure. It’s hidden from the road by trees but it really makes for a strange experience as you walk around.
Ann Frank and her sister are remembered [...]

Pain in the Butt

Almost in bed when the hotel announcement goes off telling us to evacuate.
Glad it wasn’t for real, and that it was warm and dry.

Las Vegas

Where do you start?
Big, brash, horrible climate. No values, lots of availibility.
Gambling, boredom, no taste. Cheap yet expensive, noisy.

Amazing, hideous and incredible all at [...]

Travel Musings

I’ve just been to the USA for a conference. Flew to LA, then drove to San Diego, then on to Las Vegas for the conference. Back to LA and flew home via Frankfurt.
Several things struck me as it has been a couple of years since I was in the US.
1) The price of [...]

Summer In Germany

Judging by the quantity of ladies wearing white trousers, Summer has arrived.
Let’s hope that the nonovirus has gone for the season or things could get very messy!

Things You Never Expect To See

A man dropping his pants to urinate in public. In Germany.
A man taking his pet ferret for a walk in the city centre in Hannover.

Facial Scans?

The reports today about introducing facial scanning at borders to improve security had me most perplexed.
The technology exists to do all kinds of things, but most are so linear in their thinking that bright humans can out smart them somehow. Like banking. Or firewalls. Or viruses. Or speed cameras.
So why relying on [...]

More fashion disasters

I am starting to think that Munich is either home to more space aliens than the USA, or someone has infected the population with a anti-fashion virus.
The felt hat with a circular brush on the side was unusual.
The lime green shirt and matching off-set baseball cap had you looking for snow to soothe your eyes.
But [...]
